Abstract

In this study, we synthesized a nanosilica electrolyte gel from fumed silica using the sol-gel method for use in lead-acid batteries. The properties of this gel were determined using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrochemical properties of the gel samples were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The research results indicated that the gel formed has a silica content of 8% in a 4% NaOH solution, with a mass ratio of gel forming silica to H2SO4 of 1:2.0 in a sulfuric acid solution with a density of 1.430 g/mL. The solution resistance Rs is 0.48 Ω.cm² and the charge transfer resistance Rct is 70.33 Ω.cm² to help increase the lifespan and efficiency of the battery during use.
